Rapha #ChooseCycling

It is time to choose cycling and, like so many riders around the world already have, to tell the world why.

19 June 2020

It is time to choose cycling and, if like so many recently you already have, to tell the world why.Starting today, we are celebrating the stories of millions of people around the world who have turned to the bike as society has undergone monumental shifts away from the status quo. We’d like you to do the same.

Rapha believes that cycling should be the most popular sport in the world because, unlike so many others, the simple act of participation has the power to transform lives. It is the driving force behind the products we create, the stories we tell and the communities we celebrate. Our brand was founded with a deep love for riding and now, perhaps more than ever, the sport we all share has the potential to forever change the way we live and move.

At this unique moment in time, as we transition from social hibernation to societal change, we have all been presented with a choice. We have the option to return to old routines, to hold on to the old ways, to return to our cars, our congestion and pollution, our normal; to a way of moving and living that now seems, for so many of us, a distant memory.

Or we can help to bring about a better, brighter future, one that embraces change and paves a road to safer streets and happier, healthier lives. It may sound grand - wishful, even - but tiny individual decisions in cities and towns around the world can create a movement and, at it’s best, we believe cycling is a movement.

Our job now is to inspire as many people as possible to #ChooseCycling, and it starts with all of us. Captured during lockdown, the stories of some of those who have chosen to ride in recent months will be shared across Rapha’s social media and website over the coming days and weeks, and over time we’ll add your own tales alongside them. Take a selfie, tell the world why you ride and tag it #ChooseCycling to help us show how broad, diverse and truly transformative our sport can be.

To connect with new people and explore new places.

Because I choose life over MS.

Aitana and Sarah

To connect our cooking with our community.

To feel in charge of where I’m going again.

Idries and Eissa

Because it’s fun.

To go anywhere. For the freedom, space and time.

To escape normality, finding focus in a place of my own.

To realise how lucky I am to live here.

To find my identity and inspire my community.

To help nurses get to the frontline.

To shake off some cabin fever, and see the country.

Because it makes me feel more free.

To respect the environment and discover the city.

Because it’s fun, it’s fast, it’s free and it’s efficient. Poetry in motion.

Casper and Louis

So we can ride all day, ride quickly and eat whatever we want.

Because it doesn’t matter who you are or what you look like.

Because it makes me happy. It’s simple, but it’s true.

To leave my comfort zone and see the world.

To help deliver essentials to families who can’t leave home.

Bon and Bruno

To see the wonder in my boy’s eyes.

If enough of us tell the world why we ride, we can make the world a better place to be whether you ride a bike or not.
