The Excess Collection
Upcycling surplus material into performance products.
07 January 2025
Consciously crafted
The Excess collection upcycles and transforms surplus material into performance products, one offcut at a time. Unique editions built in small batches with signature Rapha performance and quality. A cohesive project involving our supply chain, atelier, product design and engineering teams to craft long-lasting products, whilst minimising waste.
Our Mileage
Since our first Excess capsule release in 2023, the project has rescued 3,949 metres of raw material which would otherwise have become waste, to create our Excess products.
In 2024, we've also worked to repurpose 33,832 metres of material into our entire collection of performance apparel. That’s 66 laps of the Roubaix Velodrome.
Pinnacle Protection
This iteration of our Excess project features two styles using upcycled GORE-TEX materials for the first time.
This includes our Excess Pro Team Gore-Tex Rain Jacket, tried and tested by EF Education-EasyPost and EF Oatly-Cannondale at the 2023 Giro d’Italia and Giro Donne.
Our Sustainability Journey
Our goal is to minimise wastage so we no longer have enough surplus to make an Excess collection. As a rung in our ladder to improving our impact, we’re targeting long-term solutions to surplus, not just pursuing a quick fix for today.
As a clothing producer, it’s a fact that we can never be a fully sustainable business. But that does not stop us from recognising our responsibility to ensure our impact is minimised. From our product repair kits to incorporating recycled materials, we’ve always driven the pace with sustainability in the cycling industry.
